Mobile recap 2014
Just as last year, we have prepared a small recap of what happened in 2014 in the mobile world. Again If there’s something missing on the list we’ll be glad if you write us to our email and we’ll add it.
What happened in 2014?
The year 2014 is also known as The Year of Wearable Gadgets: In september Apple presented the concept for the Apple watch and besides other bracelets such as Fitbit or Jawbone, Google presented LG’s G Watches and Samsung’s Gear. With this, new options have been opened for mobile applications.
In January 2014, Google buys Nest for $3.2B to build out hardware range and the same year Nest buys the company Dropcam for $555M.
Microsoft presented Satya Nadella as new CEO replacing Steve Ballmer
Facebook: On February 19, 2014, months after a venture capital financing round at a $1.5 billion valuation, Facebook announced it was acquiring WhatsApp (WhatsApp had over 600 million active users worldwide.) for US$19 billion.
Apple: presented a new version of their OS, the iOS8 and with it a new programming language called Swift. Also presented the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus as well as new iPads.
Apple bought a major player in the audio, streaming, and headphone business, Beats Audio, for a total of $3.2 billion — in cash and stock.
Google: presented Android 5.0 and with it new material design which should define the future and unify the appearance of Android applications. Android continues to grow rapidly.
Google is extending Android to cars with, building an ecosystem which soon will be available in all kinds of cars for the most important manufactures.
Android continues to have worldwide the biggest share on the mobile world, leading the market of mobile OS’s.
Yo (app): a big phenomenon during 2014 became the very simple application “YO” which was launched in 04.01.2014 and since that date grew rapidly to millions of active users and introduced a new trend for simple applications.
Payments are also a big phenomenon in the year 2014. Apple introduced the Apple Pay and the company Stripe becomes one of the hottest startups in Silicon Valley.
Uber: another huge phenomenon all around the world proved by their $40 Billion valuation.
Alibaba files to float in the U.S., a deal worth about $20B. Dubbed as one of the largest IPOs of all time in the U.S., Chinese retail giant Alibaba became one of the biggest public technology companies in history.

Last year we informed you that we became from an internet agency to a mobile developer agency and our transformation continues with it that we focus more and more in startups and own applications. We wrote here about why we think it makes sense to work with startups.The year 2014 was for us a very demanding year, full of work and interesting projects.
And what are we currently working at and what are we preparing?
We prepare an update for the mobile app Snippit as well as an Android version.
We completely develop mobile application for the new HW company.
A new lifestyle social app which is currently in stealth mode but soon we’ll launch a beta version and it will be huge!
We’re developing a new messaging application in the style of “Yo”
The application Youradio will soon get an update which we are currently working on, we won a selection procedure for an application for Evropa 2 so we are preparing a new version of this application.
We’re preparing version 2.0 for our application Spendee which we’ll be soon writing more information.
We continue to tweak the application PlayWith and a new music application.
We’re also working on a new date site similar to Tinder.
The year 2014 was a year of hard work for us. Unlike to 2013 when we published more about what we were doing, in 2014 we were working day and night and now we’ve come finally to a time where we can show you what we’ve been working on, so please carefully follow our blog because soon we’ll publish more information!
